Once again several of our local beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status.
Whitley Bay Beach
The award area of Whitley Bay is located at the southern end of a two mile stretch of golden sand punctuated by several rocky outcrops, making it ideal for young children rockpooling. The beach is bordered on its northern end by a nature reserve and St Mary’s island, and offers a visitor centre, as well as being backed by many leisure amenities, including mini golf, a leisure pool, shops and restaurants.

Tynemouth Longsands South
There is a half mile stretch of fine golden sands at Longsands South backed by sand dunes, illustrating all the characteristics of a rural beach in an urban location. Due to its size, Tynemouth Longsands is very popular for those wanting to bathe, surf, play beach sports or simply relax. The beach is a real jewel which is greatly enhanced by the adjacent park, Blue Reef aquarium, toy museum and shops.

Tynemouth King Edwards Bay
King Edwards Bay is a small sandy beach approximately 200 metres long enclosed by cliffs and steep grass banks and, as such, is an excellent environment for family use. The beach is at the foot of Tynemouth Priory and Castle, a historic site run by English Heritage.
